Project Overview

Boon Rawd Trading Co., Ltd., a leading company in Thailand's beverage industry, commissioned a structural improvement project at its factory in Chiang Mai. The objective was to strengthen the full-height concrete columns to effectively resist shear forces, flexural loads, and seismic events.

Strengthening Objectives

   Apply a modern material that is lightweight and easy to install without adding significant dead load to the structure

Installation Process

1. 1

   Engineer Inspection of Existing Concrete Columns

   The engineering team surveyed and assessed every column — measuring dimensions, identifying cracks, and evaluating load-carrying capacity to define the scope of strengthening work.

   Surface Preparation for Optimal Bonding

   Column surfaces were thoroughly cleaned to remove dust, grease, and deteriorated concrete. Surfaces were levelled and prepared to maximise epoxy adhesion.

   Wrapping SMARTFIBER-SHEET UT70-30 Around the Full Column Height

   SMARTFIBER-SHEET UT70-30 was wrapped around each column for its full height, in the number of layers specified by the engineer, using a high-performance epoxy resin to enhance shear and flexural resistance against seismic forces.

   Quality Verification via Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

   Non-destructive testing was carried out at every installation point to confirm bond integrity and verify the load capacity of the strengthened columns.
