CFRP strengthening service for enhanced structural stability – using carbon fiber sheets.
Slab strengthening of the water reservoir using SMARTFIBER-SHEET US-58, increasing load capacity from 900 to 1,400 kg/m² to convert the area into a landscape garden complementing the new government building opposite.
This project involved improving the existing reinforced concrete structure of a large water reservoir at the front of the Chaeng Watthana Government Complex, with the objective of converting the area into an attractive landscape garden to complement the new government building on the opposite side.
Due to the age of the existing structure, the slab had a load capacity of only 900 kg/m² — insufficient for loads from trees, soil, and new garden landscaping materials. The engineering team selected SMARTFIBER-SHEET US-58, a high-strength CFRP material, to upgrade the load capacity to 1,400 kg/m².
Evaluate the condition of both the top and bottom slabs of the water reservoir, analyse current load capacity (900 kg/m²), and design the SMARTFIBER-SHEET US-58 strengthening layout to safely support the landscape garden loads.
Grind and clean the concrete surface of both the top and bottom slabs — removing dust, oil residue, and moisture — to ensure maximum bonding efficiency of the specialist epoxy adhesive with SMARTFIBER-SHEET US-58.
Lay SMARTFIBER-SHEET US-58 on both the top and bottom slabs following the engineer-designed layout, using specialist epoxy adhesive with air bubble removal rolling, to achieve full force transfer to the carbon fibre.
Conduct non-destructive testing at every installation point to confirm bonding integrity and load capacity at 1,400 kg/m² before handover and commencement of landscaping works.
