CFRP strengthening service for enhanced structural stability – using carbon fiber sheets.
Crack repair with SmartInjection EP21 and full-height column strengthening with SMARTFIBER SHEET UT70-30 — reducing structural sway and elevating safety standards for this educational facility.
The Lotus Building at KIS International School in Pathum Thani exhibited extensive cracking and column sway caused by lateral loading, compromising the overall structural integrity. Left unaddressed, these deficiencies posed escalating safety risks to the educational facility.
Smart and Bright Co., Ltd. carried out a comprehensive structural rehabilitation programme using SmartInjection EP21 high-pressure epoxy injection to seal cracks and restore concrete monolithicity, followed by full-height column wrapping with SMARTFIBER SHEET UT70-30 to increase shear capacity, reduce sway, and raise the building's long-term safety standard.
Seal cracks and restore column monolithicity — inject SmartInjection EP21 to fill all crack voids and prevent future propagation.
Increase column load-bearing capacity — wrap SMARTFIBER SHEET UT70-30 around columns to strengthen shear and bending resistance against lateral loading.
Reduce structural sway — restrain lateral column movement to improve the overall stability of the building.
Elevate building safety and service life — restore structural integrity to the educational building without demolition or reconstruction.
The engineering team surveyed and recorded all crack locations, assessed the extent of damage and column sway, analysed lateral loading as the root cause, and planned the repair sequence prior to strengthening works.
Injection ports were installed along all crack lines, then SmartInjection EP21 high-pressure epoxy was injected to fill every void, restore the monolithic behaviour of the reinforced concrete, and halt further crack propagation.
Column surfaces were ground and cleaned to ensure bond readiness. SMARTFIBER SHEET UT70-30 was then wrapped around each column along its full height using high-quality epoxy adhesive, increasing shear capacity and reducing lateral sway.
Non-destructive testing was carried out at all repaired and strengthened locations to confirm the completeness of epoxy injection and CFRP bond integrity, certifying that the structure meets the required safety standard.
