Project Overview

THE FORESTIAS (MQDC) is a large-scale mixed-use development located in Bang Na, Bangkok, developed by Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited (MQDC) under the concept of "Living in Harmony with Nature."

During construction, large floor openings were required to accommodate escalators, creating structural challenges due to concentrated loads and stresses at those points. The engineering team designed and carried out additional structural strengthening using 3 types of premium CFRP materials.

Installation Process & Quality Control

  1. 1

    Surface Preparation

Clean the installation area of dust, grease, and moisture to ensure complete epoxy adhesive bonding.

  2. 2

    Reinforcement Material Installation

Apply high-quality epoxy adhesive to bond SMARTFIBER-STRIP TL1020 along structural lines and lay SMARTFIBER-SHEET UT70-30 around the floor openings.

  3. 3

    Fire Retardant Paint Coating

Spray Fire Retardant Paint over the reinforcement materials after installation to complete fire safety requirements.

  4. 4

    Testing & Quality Certification

Verify bond strength and conduct Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) to ensure quality at every point before project handover.

Materials Used for Structural Strengthening

1

SMARTFIBER-STRIP TL1020

High-tensile carbon fiber reinforcement strip used along structural lines to transfer forces and resist bending moments caused by escalator loads.
  • Tensile strength exceeding 2,400 MPa
  • Lightweight — adds no dead load to the structure
  • Resistant to moisture and corrosion
2

SMARTFIBER-SHEET UT70-30

High-tensile woven carbon fiber sheet used to cover areas around floor openings, preventing cracking and distributing forces in multiple directions.
  • High density, average tensile strength ~3,100 MPa
  • Flexible — conforms to uneven surfaces
  • Adds strength without adding thickness
3

Fire Retardant Paint

Specialized intumescent coating applied over CFRP reinforcement materials to enhance fire safety in compliance with project standards.
  • Prevents flame spread
  • High heat resistance
  • Non-toxic under fire conditions
