Materials Used for Structural Reinforcement

Premium-grade materials were selected to ensure strength, durability, and fire safety, including:

1. SMARTFIBER-STRIP TL1020

A high-performance carbon fiber strip designed to provide tensile reinforcement across slab openings. It was used to support the structural load transferred by the escalators.

Key Features:

  • Extremely high tensile strength (>2,400 MPa)
  • Lightweight – adds minimal dead load to the structure
  • Resistant to corrosion and moisture

2. SMARTFIBER-SHEET UT70-30

A unidirectional carbon fiber fabric sheet, ideal for surface bonding in stress-prone areas. It offers multidirectional crack control and enhances structural stability.

Advantages:

  • High density and tensile strength (~3,100 MPa)
  • Flexible for complex surfaces
  • Minimal thickness impact with high reinforcement efficiency

3. FIRE RETARDANT PAINT

Specialized coating applied over fiber materials to enhance fire resistance and protect structural integrity during a fire event.

Benefits:

  • Slows fire propagation
  • Withstands high temperatures
  • Emits low toxicity in case of combustion

🛠️ Installation Process and Quality Control

  1. Surface Preparation: Concrete was cleaned to remove dust, oil, and moisture.
  2. Material Installation: SMARTFIBER-STRIP TL1020 and SMARTFIBER-SHEET UT70-30 were bonded using premium-grade epoxy resin.
  3. Fire Protection Coating: FIRE RETARDANT PAINT was applied as a final layer for fire resistance.
  4. Inspection & Testing: Quality assurance included visual checks and non-destructive testing (NDT) for adhesion and effectiveness.

✅ Post-Installation Performance

  • Structural loads were successfully distributed without visible cracks or deflections.
  • Service life was extended without the need for major invasive retrofitting.
  • Enhanced fire resistance increased safety for occupants and infrastructure.

🗣️ Client Feedback

MQDC expressed strong satisfaction with the structural reinforcement outcome, describing it as a “cost-effective and reliable solution” that met international safety and quality standards.

🧾 Conclusion

The structural upgrade at THE FORESTIAS (MQDC) demonstrates how cutting-edge materials like SMARTFIBER-STRIP TL1020, SMARTFIBER-SHEET UT70-30, and FIRE RETARDANT PAINT can be applied to complex architectural projects. The result is a robust, durable, and fire-safe structure ready to support the future of urban living.

Purpose of Structural Reinforcement

During the construction phase, large slab openings were required to accommodate escalator installations. These openings posed a structural challenge, as they concentrated loads and stresses that exceeded the original design capacity. Structural reinforcement was essential to:

  • Support the weight of the escalators
  • Prevent cracking around the openings

Improve overall safety and extend service life
